Have a short
child? 5 tips you should know
If your child is short but not a
candidate for growth hormone -- either because he is not short
enough or because you'd prefer not to go that route, Ellen Frankel
-- a Massachusetts social worker and author of the book "Beyond
Measure: A Memoir of Short Stature and Inner Growth" -- recommends
these steps:
• Stop measuring your child. Don't compare him or her to a sibling
or another child of the same age.
• Emphasize your child's self-worth regardless of height.
• If your child is being bullied because of height, address ways to
deal with the bully.
• Teach your child about cultural biases and explain there are
social biases of many sorts, not just against short people.
• Encourage your child to find his or her own strength regardless of
height.
